Martha Leone Design: The blog is where I share thoughts on the creative process and share lots of pictures of each finished piece of painted furniture. Critiques are always welcome!

Box it.

Martha Leone

I'm crazy about containers. Always have been. I can't walk by a box in a flea market or yard sale without stopping and either buying it or exercising lots of restraint.

So, in honor of all of those containers out there, I painted a couple. The picture above is a shot of the top of an antique free-standing drawer. I found two of these drawers at a yard sale last Saturday.

The wood finish was beautiful so I knew I would leave some of the wood untouched. The design was inspired by my old parcheesi game board. But after finishing the painting, my son and I decided that it looked more like a medieval shield. Anyway, whatever you call it, we kinda like it. They can can be used on any surface either stacked or used separately. These drawers have been SOLD.

Next up, a 1943 army chest that was painted then repainted (as is customary for me when I'm not sure what to do with a piece).

This army trunk is SOLD.

When I get the chance, I'll post a detailed explanation of what I did to produce the finished pieces.
