My latest project was painted with homemade chalk paint then coated with a glaze that was tinted with black. I’ve seen this technique used by very talented people and I wanted to try it on a piece with lots of detail work in the wood. The piece sold in about 2 hours which didn’t give me enough time to get better shots.
I can’t help but want to try something new on each piece. Although this one had great detail and could stand on its own, I couldn’t resist so I added black. Although the texture is fun, I realized that this piece needed to be left alone.
Alchemy Fine Living has very helpful video tutorials. I learned this technique from her. Check out this post on tinted glazes at Alchemy Fine Living.
Another great example of this technique was done by Facelife Furniture.
Before shot. Ignore the Justin Bieber message on the wall!
or on Facebook.

Love the technique! I want to try it.
Go for it. Today I’ll try using dark stain to age the piece rather than tinted glaze. Check out alchemy fine living for a video on the stain technique. Thanks for the comment!
I love that piece! You are quite talented! Any chance you live in the Charlotte area and can shop with me and teach me how you make old furniture so beautiful???
I look forward to your posts!
Hi Laurie: You’re so nice. I sure do wish I could stop by and shop with you. maybe we could talk by phone? I would love to know how you so quickly redid that chair!
Hey Martha! Bummer… not in Charlotte.
I just winged the armchair. I bought fabric I liked and layed it on the chair and just started with the front, turning the fabric under (like a hem) and stapling it to the chair. First time I did it. You can do it! Look at the lovely things you’ve done already! Send me an private email if you would like to chat.
LOving both the dressers/highboys. The aqua one is my favorite since it’s my favoritie color. Good work.LOve all your projects.
Beautiful. I love this dresser. Thanks for mentioning my tutorials too. I’m so glad you found them helpful.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks for including the ‘before’ pictures. The transformation is amazing.
Thanks sis!
Lovin your blog. I came upon it via Pinterest…I found your comment about the dresser Stripeycat did in the flag. I had the same feeling bout the “Jack”…and did a flag dresser of my own…I’m not an ethnocentric individual, but if we don’t look to ourselves to improve ourselves, then we are surely lost…Thanks again…Coreen
Visiting from Furniture Feature Friday. Beautiful job on this dresser! I really love how it came out!

Oh My!!!!! This piece is just stunning! I am inspired to try this technique with stain too, scary, but wow, the finished look is amazing. Excuse me while I go hunt through my stash to see what I can do this treatment to!
