Canada. This buffet’s homeland. It’s been painted using the same colors and technique as Mammoth Red. Visit that post if you’re interested in getting step by step instructions.
This was a quick transformation on a piece that had been previously painted by the seller. I didn’t even take the time to sand down the many paint brush marks on the doors as you can see below. I kinda like the texture actually.
Before settling on red, I had painted it green and left it alone for a few weeks and then decided that the green wasn’t quite right. The piece already feels “country” and the addition of green accentuated that style. I decided to swap out the comfy green for a sophisticated red. It’s still comfy but now has a slight attitude, which I like.

love your work. the red is great on that piece…good choice. have you published your recipe for chalk paint? i have tried some and don’t like it as well as the annie sloan, albeit is cheaper!!
sorry, just put a comment. wrong url for my blogsite!
Hi Elaine: Thanks for the kind comment! The recipe for chalk paint is 3 parts paint to 1 part plaster of paris mixture. To make the plaster of paris mixture, add water to the PoP until it’s a nice consistency (a bit thinner than peanut butter). After the PoP mixture is super smooth, add the paint and mix well. I’ve used this recipe will all types of brands of paint. I don’t know why, but BEHR Primer + Paint brand and Martha Stewart (especially red colors) have worked especially well for me. Enjoy! I’ll spend some time on your blog tonight!!!
I just love that shade of red… understated and sophisticated, definitely creates WOW factor!
I don’t think I have seen this color combo before–I love it!
Gorgeous AND inspiring.

what a great piece. that would make an adorable sink base for a bathroom. love the color and as always…your designs!
on a side note in regard to a question above….have you tried BM or Pittsburg with you chalk paint recipe? just curious as that is the paint i use most often.
Hi Judi. Thanks for your ideas. You mentioned Benjamin Moore paint. I love the stuff but I tend to use it on the pieces that need a higher gloss finish and that don’t need distressing. I buy the Advance line of paint from them. It is incredible. I’m sure that BM paint would do well as chalk paint. Not sure about Pittsburg though as I haven’t used it. What draws you to use Pittsburg?
Very niuce piece! Love your choice of red, Martha, by coincidence I have also finished a project with red paint! Please take a look: http://www.stonehouseworkshop.com
