Shoot from a new perspective.
Determine a theme for the shoot and choose props that support that idea.
Create custom wall art. Paint directly on the wall or on canvas.
Use what you already have in unexpected ways and repeat the use of those objects for a cohesive look.
^ For this shoot, I used my large collection of these Anthropologie knobs as props. The same knobs were used on the dresser.
^ Organic shapes work very well with the angular lines of mid century furniture. For this shoot, I clipped branches from our Japanese Maple tree.
Use your tools of the trade.
Take a walk around your workshop and try to see things in a new light. Also, use what fascinates you. I've always been interested in tools so many of my tools appear in my photographs. The antique saw, paint brushes, and clamp have been some of my favorites. Lightbulbs (especially the hefty halogen floodlights) are intriguing in shape and texture.
They appear in many of my photographs.
