Silver and Gold

Martha Leone

Sharing photos of my latest piece in Ralph Lauren Graphite Metallic Paint with undertones of charcoal gray and gold. I didn't plan this look. It just happened due to my indecision and lack of planning. Sometimes I can't decide what to do with a dresser but lack of space in my workshop compels me to move forward anyway. Sometimes it's good to just dive in without a plan and in this case, the spontaneity worked. It was sold to a local customer just 10 minutes after I added it to my online shop.

I started with charcoal gray since it's one of my favorite color. After painting it, it seemed too dark and ominous. Metallics are a favorite in my workshop so I washed it with loose strokes of gold. It was only after stepping back to inspect the gold that I realized the gold didn't look right. Then I reached for my favorite Ralph Lauren metallic color, Graphite, and loosely painted it over the gold. It was sealed with Varathane Water-based poly.

^  This process photo, taken before the knobs were installed, helped me appreciate the overall design and it felt complete. From an aesthetic perspective, the design it was complete. From a practical perspective, I needed to install something.... so the knobs were painted to match the dresser to hide them a bit.
