This is our first milk paint project. I say "our" because my daughter Anna, worked on this piece. General Finishes sent me samples of two of their beautiful milk paint colors and I was skeptical although very excited to try a new product. I had this notion that milk paint was thin and somewhat transparent and that it would be impossible to get depth of color unless you apply many layers. I was wrong. This paint was thin but opaque. As I worked with it, it reminded me of guache paint which I used in art school and just loved its opaque vibrant colors.

Process/Materials - The color is Queenstown Gray by General Finishes. - We sanded the piece by hand, cleaned it, then applied two coats of paint - We lightly sanded just to get the desired level of distressing. It wasn't necessary to sand in order to create that silky smooth finish we all like. That silky finish is an essential part of this paint. - It was sealed with Varathane Satin Polyurethane. - Knobs are from Anthropologie.

Next week, I'll debut a small piece painted in another General Finishes color, Evening Plum.

This piece is available in my etsy shop.   SOLD
