Gray is Great.

Martha Leone

This dresser is a keeper. It's a bit too fancy for my taste but sturdy and has lots of storage potential. Would you believe me if I told you I got this piece FREE off Craigslist?

Here it is before the paint job:

Materials used

- Benjamin Moore Advance Semi-Glass paint. I mixed a bit of brown with my favorite charcoal color, 1547. The yellow drawers were painted in Advance 2154-20.

- Sand paper

- Benjamin Moore oil-based All Purpose Primer

Process

The dresser was lightly sanded, primed, then painted two coats of the gray. The drawer pulls are original and I didn't even clean them before putting them back on. Was slightly tempted to paint them white but didn't want them to stand out so much... just kinda blend in and do the job they were designed to do!

The piece was lightly distressed. No need to seal it because this paint is super strong and just plain fantastic.

Lessons learned

I used the same kind of paint on my parcheesi dresser. If you're interested in trying this paint, read that post as I explain some of the pros and cons of using it.

We'll keep this piece and use it in the basement but I love the color and plan to use it again for sale items! I submitted this project to powerofpaint.net and she shared it with her readers. You should check out her blog. She features various painted furniture projects on a regular basis. It's a great place to get instruction or inspiration!
