Tiger Maple Dresser in Turquoise
Martha Leone
This small tiger maple dresser was given to me by Peg Leg Vintage, the store that sells some of my work. I hesitated to paint it then decided to cover just enough to contrast the old wood grain with modern shapes. The bright turquoise compliments the yellow tones in the wood.
THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL
If you haven't started a sketchbook to store your ideas, start today. Jot down or draw thoughts that come to mind and don't edit them. This is the place where every idea gets a chance. Just grab your choice of a notebook and a Ticonderoga pencil (my favorite) and you're ready.
I've been filling sketch books for over two decades. In fact, the idea for this dresser was scribbled down over two years ago. As I brainstormed ideas for this piece, I remembered the negative/positive play in that sketch and thought something simple and bold would work well with the straightforward design of this antique.
