Coastal Credenza
Martha Leone
Another super heavy piece prevented me from bringing it inside to style it and properly photograph it. In fact, it's such a bully that it steered me away from other projects so that I could get it completed and out of the way.
Concept I love anything that reminds me of the coast and as summer was approaching, I was inspired to paint this piece with colors from our vacation in Maine. White, red, and all shades of weathered blue are some of my favorite Maine colors.
Process I used homemade chalk paint. I applied two coats of each color then sanded and sealed. The top was painted a light blue then two coats of the dark color were applied on top. Sanding reveals a bit of the undercoat and reminds me of sun drenched wood planks on old coastal homes. Hardware is original to the piece. It was my intention to line the top drawers with marine paper charts but I'm having trouble finding them. Below are two examples of what I'm looking for:
The plaster of paris leaves tiny white specs in the dark paint color and creates the texture of sand.
