Chalk paint takes very well to antique pieces when the old finish has lost its patina. Annie Sloan chalk paint was made for pieces like this. To tone down the Coco color and give it some depth, I used my typical staining process that has been used on so many other pieces. If interested in this process, check out Unobtrusive Buffet or Mammoth Red. This piece was delivered to a customer’s home in the late fall and I’m just now getting around to sharing it!
I’m busy working on a few pieces that I hope to link up to the Cottage and Bungalow Magazine feature contest. You can learn more about it at WhisperWood Cottage.
or on Facebook.

THIS is stunning. I love the color and the finish is beautiful!
That is gorgeous! I love your work!
What a beautiful piece! I just love the coco and antiquing treatment! I am making over a piece of furniture very similiar to this one right now in Old Ochre. I was excited to come across this post on Pinterest as I have been curious about the piece I have. Mine is reproduction, but has the two cupboard doors, curvy legs and shorter stature. I have never seen anything like it before…before I came across your post, that is! I think it’s a bar cabinet of sorts, but would love to hear what your thoughts were on your piece. Thank you!
Best Wishes and Blessings,
Amanda
Hi Amanda,
Thanks so much for the interest. I’m so very interested in the history of each piece and do a bit of research on them. This piece stumped me. It’s nice, traditional, well made but I couldn’t even think of specific key words to use as search words for my research. I’m sure that it was made post 1910 or so as the back side is a solid piece of board. I think that before 1910, the back side of pieces were planked… that was before plywood was developed. Other than dating the piece, I wish I knew more about it… send info if you’re able to get info on your piece. Thanks!
